EPGP/EEPGM -05 Applicant City Distribution

Given below is the City wise distribution of EPGP-05 applicants. It seems this course is more popular in Bangalore and Mumbai than other parts of India . Distribution wise – Bangalore – 31% , followed by Mumbai 22% and Delhi – 18%.

Between EPGP and EEPGM it seems more people are inclined for EPGP than EEPGM with 80% of people opting for EEPGP than EEPGM

      1. Do you guys know the number of candidates who attended the interview across India in the mentioned states above ? Also, any idea like, If the candidates are more in a city, is it like the selection will be more in this cities ? or will this be a equal distribution for all cities ?
        Appreciate your response.

    1. Normally Bangalore candidates are the highest among all cities. But there is no restriction that IIMK has to select a specific amount of students from particular city. We have seen the spread across different cities..

  2. Thanks Vinay for the response. Do you have any idea on the number of candidates ? I saw the distribution percentage wise, instead number ?

    1. You can go to IIMK website and enter your roll number for the same to get the results of the same. Similarly you would get an email stating the same with a letter as well in post

  3. hi everyone…any idea what time results are going to get announced..they are supposed to be declared on 10th Oct…ZX

    1. I have called up the IIMK’s office. They told me at 4 PM that it is not yet updated and it would be updated soon, today.

  4. I also want to know if the result is been out or not. Their website says that result will be out on 10th October 2012 🙂

  5. Hi guys, the results for EPGP’05 are out in IIM-K website. Please check your’s. You need to have the Application no. with you. All the best.

  6. I am not seeing any website, forum or running thread for EPGP 05 candidates. Are there very few such candidates this year or very few to communicate? Please send me the link of any such running thread / forum/ groups

    1. Yes there are chances to change the same. Just note that IIMK takes most of the money in first 15 months… with 90% in first 12 months.. So not sure how would they adjust

  7. Anyone from Delhi NCR who got through. By the way Vinay..any updates on % selected and how many are still shortlisted.

      1. Aditya, from where did you get this number ? By the way, am not seeing any active threads going on. Is it only few members are there for this program ?

      2. The number 300 came from IIMK professors themselves. You won’t see any active threads as people do not know each other right now… not all of them would have found Vinay’s blog 🙂

Once people meet in 1st week of December on campus, its only then we can start connecting.

      3. That’s correct .. normally people have hesitation in connecting with folks which they don’t know. Take this on-campus session as your holidays!!!. I would say 2nd in campus would be much more fun as by then you could related to folks out there

    1. Sure Akshat….congrats to you too also…..SP even I have forwarded the request pls. see…
Akshat are you also from Gurgaon?

      1. No yaar ..not yet booked..accomodation I think has to be arranged on own as IIMK has no options…u coming alone or with family?

  8. Does anyone know if there are any banks which offer education load for the epgp program? Vinay, can you please let me know any details regarding this? I have been selected for the EPGP-05 program.

    1. Santosh !!! Once you reach IIMK (In Campus) they would normally get a back which could give student loan for the same. Almost 60-70% of the participant would have some or other sort of funding. E.g. we had 20 people from Patni and Patni funds this program… similarly SAP Lab had 30 people and they all were funded by their own company ….. So not sure from our batch how many of the people who took student loans but surely there was a bank counter for those who wanted to avail loan

  9. Its a long post, bloggers who are looking for filtered details may skip first three sections and can directly go to ‘concerns’ section.
    Thanking You

    Hi Vinay
Thanks alot for opening informative blog, this blog is helping hundreds of like minded people share their experience and ideas.I have read almost all of your posts in this blog and respective comments.
    My Details
    ==========
I am selected for ePGP batch 05. As everyone investigate to go for part time MBA or not, so as I. Even though i was fully aware before giving exam what are the benefit which i am NOT going to get after doing part time epgp but after selection i can sense some inquisitiveness
as what .all list of benefits we can get from this.
    What i read
    ============
I went through IIMK Q/A website and read this Q/A which caused a concern, here is the question (http://www.iimk.ac.in/epgp/ePGP-FAQ.php)

Q: Can the participants who have completed the EPGP register for Doctoral/Fellow Programme?
Ans: Applicants will have to meet the eligibility requirements of the Doctoral/Fellow Programme of the institutions where they are applying and these requirements vary from one university/institute to another. As of now, there is some uncertainty as the ePGP is of recent origin in the country and we hope that our Programme would soon be recognized as Masters equivalent.

Last line is cause of concern : “hope that our Programme would soon be recognized as Masters equivalent.”
    Concerns
    ==========
    1) Does this –> “….hope that our Programme would soon be recognized as Masters equivalent….”
mean that this distance learning Programme is not considered as equivalent to MBA program, If so then diploma certificate which we get awarded (photo given in one of your previous blog) having details as
“Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management” doesn’t it mean that we are diploma holders same diploma which other 1 year full time executive IIMs gives (I have checked few other executive mba given by IIMs has same heading)??
(Also bit confusing in some of previous post we said that: we can apply for jobs which has openings for MBA in private sectors and not in gov. sector cos its not gov. recognized –> then doesn’t it indicates that this course is equivalent to MBA hence we are applying in private sector for MBA openings)
    2) Any idea, Would we be in alumni of IIMK ?
    3) Your repetitive and clear posts helped me to understand that we cannot expect monitory benefits after completing this course but i suppose it would be of great benefit to all the followers of this site if any of us knows any benefits which our senior batch has reaped out of this course ?
    4) I also read that IIMK is going to have Kochi campus for satellite education and as website says :

Initially, the Satellite centre will be offering one year executive MBA program as well as two year part time programs in addition to a large number of short duration Management Development Programs.

Any idea what offerings/benefits it is going to offer for 2 year part time programs?
    5) I also read that epgp batch 02-03 is forming placement cell and its in nascent stage, is it being done with help from IIMK or is it a self initiative?
    6) I totally understand that individual motive to pursue this course should only and only be knowledge and to grow in current company with current role, but if in my company/sector growth is not dependent on MBA knowledge rather is more driven by :
    No. of years of experience
    Technical knowledge/expertise
Fr eg: I.T sector, many of manager/sr, manager/directors/sr. directors are not MBAs so how is this course help in these sectors? Then is it worth doing this course?
Your or any other inputs would be greatly helpful in making my move rather hundred of other people making their move

  10. Gaurav, Akshat, senthilvs – Congratulation on your selection, I have added all of you to the group ePGP IIMK 2012-14.

Paresh – your concerns are genuine and I am also looking for Vinay/ others to answer them.

I have answer to one of your question though. I had asked the interview panel at IIMK whether the placement cell for ePGP is authorized by IIMK. The placement cell informed me that this is an initiative by the alumni and current students of ePGP and IIMK does not have any influence on that.

  11. Paresh – also IIMs offer only diploma and not a degree. This is perceived to be a disadvantage to those who want to apply for govt. jobs. Govt of India is working to break this logjam as they are the loser, not being able to employ the best of the minds. Please refer to the link for a recent comment by Mr. Kapil Sibal, Union minister for human resource development : http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-06-27/news/32440822_1_iim-students-indian-institutes-mhrd

  12. SP, very good link. Hope the outcome comes positive since it is under the consideration of HRD ministry.
Btw, do you guys know whether you received any information on the fee payment ? Looks like online payment isn’t active yet ? Kindly let me know.

  13. Thanks for sharing info.. SP…Either is ok diploma or degree as far as brand is associated..here concern is : are we guys eligible for MBA jobs as IIMK site states that diploma provided to us is not equivalent to MBA..

As of now, there is some uncertainty as the ePGP is of recent origin in the country and we hope that our Programme would soon be recognized as Masters equivalent.

I guess all ePGPs they are talking about :Part time (i.e through DL..Diatance Learning) + Full Time
    OR

Only Part Time ePGPs not considered for Masters equivalent

  14. …Lets congratulate Vinay…..
    ============================

I got all answers from Vinay on long post posted above under diffenret section(i pasted my post in two sections, i got reply under section ‘IIMK launches satellite campus in Kochi’)

    …….
[Vinay]…… I personally got benefited that I was able to crack two interview – 1 of which I didn’t join and other I am joining next month (Cap Gemini)
    …..

Congrats Vinay!!! My Best Wishes !!!.. As you stated ePGP course helped you gain confidence which finally helped in clearing interviews.

Did ePGP also helped to acquire higher role (compared to current role) ?

  15. Hi friends, This is Rajeshkumar from Coimbatore, got selected for ePGP-05, can anyone provide me information about eduational loans from any nationalised bank, what Rate of Interest they charge.
Is there any one got selected from Coimbatore or Chennai.

Through your this blog , I am glad that we atleast get to know about our peer group members of EPGP – 05 batch.

    1. Yeah actually some people did take their family during their 2nd in campus program as well. Some of them took 2 weeks off and then made sure they see kerala as well during the trip. But it is advised that you take family for 2nd in-campus session that now

  17. anybody coming by flight FROM delhi to calicut and back…………Air India seems best option with COMPLIMENTARY Breakfast at delhi & Lunch at Mumbai.

AI 657 delhi to calicut depart 7AM arrival 13:05

  18. Vinay/All – Do you guys know whether IIM provides accommodation for this in-campus module ? I read some where that they are providing the hostel facility for this week. Please throw some light on it.

  19. Spoke to one of the Huges person, he updated that talk is going btwn epgp batch and iimk for placements assit. …is it true..anyone having any idea??

    1. They upload profile pretty late .. For us also they uploaded after almost 8 months or so … When we would pass out i.e. by Jan you could see yours name appearing then. At a time they show two group who are active

  20. Hi Akshat….With family I will plan in second visit to campus….

I hope that you will alsoplan ofr fkight on 3rd from Delhi…..Are you planning to come with your family..!?

  21. Gaurav :Hi Akshat….With family I will plan in second visit to campus….
I hope that you will also plan for flight on 3rd from Delhi…..Are you planning to come with your family..!?

  22. Vinay, please elaborate about the issues with Hughes platform. I heard many times classes get disrupted, and interactivity that IIMK promises is not usually possible due to issues at centers.

    1. Its not that bad but once in a while there are issues with bandwidth….But then it is an exception than a norm. I would say in last 2 years we have only occasional disruptions. However sometimes presentation/video conferencing takes some time to load. However it is not un bearable I would say …..!!!

  23. Hi Everyone…any idea what time on 9th, Sunday, can we book return flight…Will Sunday be a full day program or something else…Vinay, if you could please help..

    1. People can leave early on that day…. Lot of people get back on last day of the in campus program….. You can leave by 2 or 3 :00 pm on last day of in-campus session

  24. Dear Vinay,
Thanx a lot for writing these blogs. It has really helped me in knowing almost everything about iimk epgp program.
Got selected…and would be joining the same.
Really appreciate the level of information provided by you which has helped many.

    1. That was exactly the intent brother… I was also tried finding things out in internet, websites but did not get much info.. that/s when I started to write this…. I surely wouldn’t have much to write after I finish this course but will try to give as much as I know of till then

      1. Hi Vinay as we would be going to campus from 4-9 dec …just wanted to know the timings of classes at campus …

  25. Thanks a lot all of you guys..Vinay could you help a bit about timings and accomodation and stuff on the first visit to the campus

    1. Can you please elaborate as to what are you looking at. I couldn’t understand the information you need about accomodation. I have a place in blog where I have mentioned some of the hotel’s and the price range they are in

  26. Date 10Oct-2012: Afternoon 2:30 ..Sitting in office canteen…got call from my wife..Was very happy to clear exam+interview after 7 years …

One day after : state transformed to: Wondering…Searching..Greed started arising…inquisitive about Career ..what after epgp…Is it worth 7lakhs and 2 years Rigorous hardship ?

.. Did lots of goggling ..every page is now known by my laptop cookies and they say : I am marking this page in violet color..Later i tried to rescue ..to get inputs from peers and few of my HR friends..
As far as i inquired from my current company HR manager..they don’t accept e-MBA guys for their normal MBA requirements..(This i am not speaking of mid tier IT companies but big scale IT company)

Knowledge if gained but never applied rather never got opportunity to apply result in rust. I wonder if there is industry recognition where can we apply this.
Perception is that this will get applied somewhere

Immediate though which comes in mind are we applying graduation knowledge in current industry but then another facet is :: that degree is recognized/accepted by indian industry …

  27. I also called plenty of seniors from epgp batch 01,02,03,04 ..didn’t got positive feedback from any one of them..No one has applied any learning in their current company/project nor it helped in switching their jobs.

((((( I also called vinay good thing was : i got unbiased response from him…We counted positives as well as negatives aspects of it) ))))))

Intentions are not to demotivate but to find actual picture…To investigate that in epgp course case study of different subjects HR,operations..managerial eco is required
    OR
case study is required as why this course has failed to be recognized by industry what MORE amendments to be made to make it recognized more by industry.
(Some companies are sponsoring this course but are these recruiting outside people who have done same course)

I completed my PMP this year (PMP helped me to move further mentor who thought me motivated and gave clarity of course wrt to carrer and knowledge), with lot of pain i m saying none of our seniors has carrer confidence nor there is confidence where are they going to apply learnt knowlege..
PMP adds value to resume also it teaches how to manage projects..Which i see as more applicable in on going projects so is it industry recognized…

I am not sure after feedback from seniors which epgp subject is real time applicable in IT industry and if applicable why is it not industry accepted, if accepted why not seniors reaping fruits out of it : in current or outside orgs???

I may sound gloomy but i am not at all..I just updated my analysis which is MY personal thinking .. decision for individual is at their sole discretion.

    1. Plenty of seniors??? And they haven’t applied the learning in their current project/job? Then it would be like, someone
working in Sales got specialized in HR. Then how can he apply that in his job? You have mentioned that lot of seniors from all the batches, (you got to be kidding me) if that is the case, why everyone was doing it? Let us say, some one from Batch 1 is not happy or he did not have good opinion of this course, why would he recommend to juniors? My boss is doing the course and he is very happy about the curriculum and the way IIM K has designed this course.

[If you are very skeptic about the course and the curriculum my honest advice for you is please don’t accept the offer. And one more thing, if you cannot spend time for the course, it is very difficult to get the degree and it is a waste of money. But if you do this course, kindly do let us know, why you have still gone ahead even after your seniors don’t have a good opinion about the course] Everything within the square brackets are for you, Paresh.

And for others who have secured the admission,”My boss is presently doing this course and he is holding a senior most position in my company. He says the curriculum and the course are really good and he is learning a lot from the course. The only negative he was having is about spending/finding the time preparing for assignments and for projects. If you cannot spend time on this and if you are not ready to dedicate your sweet weekends for the the next two years, then this course is definitely not for you”.

P.S>> Paresh , you need to improve your English.I don’t know whether you were writing this in haste, but my personal advice is to improve your English. You may hold a degree form an ivy league University but without the basic English you would go nowhere.
If you have written this in haste, ignore my advice. Cheers!!!!

  28. Parekh–I appreciate your effort in writing your analysis. I would like to let you know one thing that, this epgp is not the tangible tool to get you the promotion or for the career shift. I too did some ground study and talked to few of epgp attendees.I got the positive energy as well from those guys. My thought here is, this is the course which will help you to understand the holistic picture on facets of management how it is used in the industry/corporations. Ofcourse you carry the brand, but the serious dedication on this course will change the person in you and will provide a different dimensions of thinking/visibility on the industry eco system.
Its an individual’s smartness/drive on how you will facilitate yourself by utilizing the gained knowledge. knowledge will definitely will give you the shift. Also, consider the positive aspects as well. I know of many organizations do consider the candidates with good experience with management blend, but you need to prove. All the best and take a comfortable decision for yourself.

      1. Thanks Parish and kollappan for both the perspectives. Would want to add a few points which are solely my views and how I thought about this course.
To start with, talking to people and taking their positive negative Inputs is good but definitely not a strong parameter for deciding to enroll into this course or not. They shared their experiences, why they did not succeed could be due to various reason one possible reason could be the IT slow down in the global markets hence that can be relative.
First of all let us unanimously accept the fact that we have missed our train for a normal MBA course and this is a special course that we would possibly take up, hence the pros and cons for this course cannot be judged considering a 2 year full time Course as a bench mark. Few points I thought about are
        1) Am I ready to give up my existing careers and go ahead for a full time course, obviously the answer is “NO” hence we are all discussing this forum. Hence my mere expectation that the course is equivalent to a course where a person solely dedicates 2 years of his life isn’t justified. We are not willing to start from zero hence this is a add-on skill enhancement course.
        2) If not this course what are the other options available, are they feasible at our respective locations? Is the course content provided by them better than this course? 2 years and obviously the financial investment can i get a better option than this?
        3) PMP certification would definitely good but is not inline with my career aspirations. Whats the no of PMP certified professional and epgp profs? PMP +epgp and definite edge over the mass. Cannot compare the two courses the are different
        4) The very fact that companies are sponsoring the course itself means that they definitely need knowledgeable people there. What happens to me is solely what I do with it and opportunities that get .
I take this as a learning opportunity more than anything else. What happens two years down the line is a different story, also no certification or diploma degree is an assurance it’s always an prospect open. Also it’s a long way that we have come to think about these things now , had we give a thought prior it would have saved the efforts to fill the forms and studying for the exam, but better late than never good step.
Again, these are my views think well and make a wise decision.

  29. Good thing is.. I am discovering new within myself ..This has given me an edge..People started recognizing me with new person in me : Parish , Parekh and one more i didn’t remembered..

    🙂 😀 .. (I have not taken it personally so no worries…. !! )

In reality my name is : Paresh

    1. oops…it was a typo Paresh :).correcting myself. Hope you would have got some thought process to work out. Bye..

  31. Vinay,

Could you please confirm what subjects are there in Year 1 and what books were issued for them?

Also the same for Year 2 (whichever subjects you took up).

    1. For Year 1 you would have 26 subjects with subjects in Strategy, HR, Org Behavior, Finance and Accounting , Statistics, Supply Chain as some of them with varying credit points 1 or 2 or 3. These 26 papers would be covered in 4 terms for each quarters. I have already uploaded few question papers for few of the term exams which will help you get some insights of the question paper. For specialization I had taken Finance and Strategy and there were total of 19 papers

  32. Some of EPGP04 batch folks said IIMK promised them Electives in the handbook and now they are going back on that promise and pushing them into accepting specialization. That is not good, in my opinion. Electives is the way to go globally. Not sure why IIMK is doing that.

  33. Vinay, Could you please let us know how the term exams are conducted ? I understand that we will have 26 papers in 1st year. Therefore, I assume that we will have 4 trimesters in a year and I think 4-5 papers for each term. So, wondering, how will they conduct written exams. Will there be exams for every weekend in each term to cover all the papers ?. Please provide some light on this.

    1. Exams happens on weekend – Saturday and Sundays with almost 2 papers on each day. Exams are paper/pen based and are conducted in an exam center (typically a school) with invigilators. Rest of the exams are held week next or after 2 weeks depending on if there is any clash with other stuff. 90% of exams carry marks up to 50-60% of overall marks

  34. Vinay, generally to clear paper how do you prepare..do we go though few books ..chapterwise or we explore internet for various topics.. or having understanding and discussion in class and material(like reading ppt) given by prof. is enough to get through the exams???

Also are you giving daily 2-3 hours of study to complete assignments and projects?

    1. Studies between 1-2 hrs daily(2 hrs ideal) should suffice. IIMK would provide you books and reading material for the course work. Please note that it is important to attend the classes as many a times things are asked whatever is being taught in the class. So PPTs, course taught in the class are important. So sometime it is ok not to read book but to go through the class reading materials… I guess books and reading materials are good enough to get good score…

  35. vinay, at IIMK website :- http://www.iimk.ac.in/fpm/fpm_admissionprocess.php

for admission to FPM: it is mentioned as follows:–
    —————————————————————————————————————–
Relaxation: Candidates possessing PGDM of IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.33 or equivalent will be eligible for applying directly, without again taking a qualifying examination.
    —————————————————————————————————————–
does this means ePGDM also eligible or not !! (:

  36. I got admission to ePGP-5 programme i.e Executive Post gradute Diploma Programme from IIm Kozhokode.

admission was granted via eMAT entrance test conducted at various centres across all India .Subsequently i submitted first installment of Fee i.e172000 (Total amount is 695000 to be paid in installments).

Today i came to know of a public notice dated 15.11.12 appearing at AICTE website regarding admission to PGDM Institutions. It says as per Supreme court judgement dated 6.11.12…any PGDM from AICTE approved institutes …where admission is based on entrance tests different from CATGMAT,,XAT..etc.. .is ILLEGAL.

    Now main confusions are.
    1. what is scope of part time ePGP ( Approx 2 year 3 months)being offered by IIm Kozhikode. means how it is recognized in India.
It is approved by AMBA London but not by AICTE.
    2. classes to start in First week of December 2012. does this notice applicable to Institute of National Importance i.e IIM.
3.Secondly if PGDM for Executives by IIM Kozhikode is not recognized by AICTE. Why Institute of National Importance offering such courses.
3.This means we cannot get Govt Job , pursue Phd even after doing Course from Institute of national Importance.Pls clarify in detail that how the stuents after complrting ePGP programme from Institute of National importance( IIM Kozhikode) can continue the higher Education.

    1. Would be good if you could ask these queries when you go to IIMK during in-campus session. Please update me as well

      1. The student of ePGP can not do PhD anywhere in India as the course is not approved by UGC and AICTE. Also due to the recent notification of AICTE, now onwards, the admission through eMAT is not valid. To make this program valid, either GMAT or CAT score is needed like IIMA, IIMB, IIMI & IIML are doing for the PGPX or EPGDM. If IIMK allows its ePGP students for their FPM program (without CAT) then the ePGP has its validity in real terms, then industry will look for the credibility. This ePGP is one of the nicely designed program by IIMK and even AMBA people have appreciated the same (as per ePGP student). The program of ePGP demands very hard work and demands consistent efforts. Though from faculty side and syllabus perspective it is almost at par with regular program but the faculty of IIMK itself not interested to promote this ePGP with a fear of losing the importance of their regular PGP. Also some of the external faculties in ePGP found to be cunning and found full of with negative mentality which hampers the program and it miss the train of real charm of doing the course. For selecting such external faculties for program IIMK have to take care of the quality and avoid such nonsense faculties from teaching to experienced executives.

  37. Called and Spoke to Prof. C Raju(Director of this program)

As per him IIM has nothing to do with AICTE. IIM doesnt consider AICTE norms . AICTE norms are more to do with private institutions which are doing intake without any structured norms.

As per conversation: For full time or for this course AICTE norms are not applicable for IIMs.

( It seems lots of people called him up hence explanation started before i could complete the question.)

Also spoke reg. Cochin center. He said that center would cater for : 1 year Full time Executive program .
EPGP has to do nothing with that center.

There would be some part time certification programs for local IT companies’ employees.

1 Year exe. program has selection procedure different from EPGP.

  38. Just to give glimpse of current activities:
Its 3rd day for epgp 05 batch ..Today we had cultural fest.. from 7 to 9:30.
Its a new dimension to life.

Few of upgrades in epgp (1st year) course design:
In order to align course we came to know that for Q1 there would be four days a class

    Exam pattern became tougher.

    Attendance,Reexamination –> became tougher.

    Class participation is strictly monitored.

Found lots of friends on this forum in current batch..Good to see everyone

  39. Hi Vinay,
Thanks alot for such a detailed informtion.
It would be of great help, if you can touch upon the eMAT exam, which is a qualifiying exam for ePGP from IIMK.
How tough is this exam, and what are the study materials to be referred ?
    Thanks alot in advance.

    My mail id: janagoudar1983@gmail.com

    1. Sachin,
I have included one sample EMAT question paper and 1 actual question paper. This will help you in preparing. See my other posts and you will find it there

      Regards
      Vinay

  40. Hi Vinay,

Your blogs and discussions are very informative. Saw the sample emat as well as actual emat papers uploaded by you. Will you be able to upload any recent eMat papers. It would be great if you can do that… Thanks.

  41. Hi Vinay, How would differentiate the experience between brick and mortar classrooms versus virtual one? Is it effective model? Any inputs are highly appreciated.

    Regards, Vivek

    1. Sorry for being late … Brick and Mortar is anytime better than virtual one… Out in virtual putting on head phones for 3 hours and sitting is painful initially but then you get used to it. More it it becomes painful if lecture is boring. Plus the eye contact ….. However for learning it is same as watching youtube video but then out in here since there is an interaction between students/professor it is not as bad as watching youtube videos…
