Day 2 – Day 7 @ IIMK

Day 2 up to Day 6 went by smooth attending lectures from various profs on different subjects. After the classes I was wondering why studying management is not made compulsory in schools and colleges as it is pure common sense and it helps individual in day to day operation and business … IIM-K had arranged for a cultural program in the evening at 7:30 PM for all the participants of eMEP-10/ePGP-03. It was at scheduled to be at Hotel Gateway and buses from Hotels were arranged for Pickup/Drop.. It was the same day 30th-Sep-2010 when the verdict on Ram Janmabhumi had to come… There was section-144 in Khozikode/Calicut.. People were anxious to know the verdict…and the situation in and around rest of India…. But it appeared absolutely normal in the evening with no traces of any disturbances in the city and city was calm and peaceful… As a part of Cultural program IIMK had arranged for a orchestra with live music… All the artists/singer  were localites and were singing songs of 1980s – various number of Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle etc… Food was arranged for all of us… Some of us after having dinner wanted to dance … and we did….. took snaps with various professors …..It was overall fun and I guess some of us danced after long long time ….

Day 7 was short one with only two lectures of Management Accounting – I till lunch time afterwhich some of the participants had their reservations/flight back home… Also at a place near Auditoriam and at stores most of the all participants jostled for space to buy IIMK T-shirts,Jackets etc…. Seemed like it being distributed for free…or available in sale …the one of the kind of rush you see in the malls… I too was part and parcel of the same mad rush …. Finally at 2:30 PM on 01-Oct suddenly our journey to IIMK came to a halt…. with no roads leading back to IIMK campus atleast for next 6 months or so till May 2011 … I know after 01-Oct some of the visiting cards exchanged with colleaugues out there would try finding space in wallet and then would be moved to the drawer and then one fine day to the dustbin … as history says it all….

We came back to our hotel at around 3:30 pm .. The same hotel which seemed to be bustling with participants for a week suddenly wore a desserted look and was looking pale and un-attractive… Since some of us – me, Siddharth and Amit had our flights next day afternoon …so we went out to explore Baypore beach in the evening …… Baypore beach was better than Calicut Beach (the one near our hotel) but by 7:00 pm was giving a desserted look ….Amit bought a small sovinier, a small wooden boat from the nearby shops. and the day came to an end….

  1. Hi Vinay,

This is Satish from Chennai. I am planning to apply for this program; I request you to throw light in this program and help to decide if I can really choose this program.

At the onset I would like to congratulate you for completing EPGP.

Please find below my career synopsis.

 Currently working as Training lead in an MNC.
 Overall experience of 5.8yrs incorporate.

Goal: To get into main stream HR; become a HR generalist.

    Impediments to my goal:

 Zero experience as a HR generalist.

I plan to do EPGP (HR), from IIM-K. I would want to know if this course will align me with my goal. Please clarify on the below given points

    1. How useful is this program to realize my goal?
    2. How is this program view (valued) in corporate?
    3. Is this program worth doing, considering the fees amount (2Lakhs)?
    4. What are the other options available, if in case this program won’t help me?

It would be great if you can help me with some clarity.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Satish
